BIO
One of the first bands Adam Wolcott Smith started was named “Invisible Hand” and after recording their self titled release he signed to the publishing company Salinger Songs (http://www.salingersongs.com/)
Adam Wolcott Smith is self-taught musical omnivore:
In 2016 he formed the experimental band Zen Mother with Monika Khot. In an effort to stretch their musical abilities beyond convention.
In 2017 Zen Mother was awarded the Puget Soundtrack Residency, a Cue Northwest project produced in partnership by Brick Lane Records and Northwest Film Forum to perform a commissioned live score to Jodorowsky’s The Holy Mountain
“When the 4th wall is broken, we will help it fall. When the imagery begs confusion, we will provide chaos. When comfort and solace is provoked, we will soothe you.” – Zen Mother on their score
The re-score received a standing ovation at it’s one and only performance in Seattle, WA, solidifying their reputation as important figures of the avant-garde in the PNW.
In 2018 Adam joined playing keyboards in the nationally touring band from SoCal, The Growlers. He has played with them all across the globe, playing nightly in 2000+ capacity theaters from Australia to Germany; From Mexico back to the US. He also contributed songwriting to their 2019 release “Natural Affair”
Throughout 2020 and 2021, his hands were kept limber by producing, arranging and performing for different artists: keys on a new Purple Pilgrims record, bass and MIDI production on new a solo record from Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade and Arcade Fire fame, Writing and arranging, new works by Lena Fayre, as well as many more…
Back to the stage, he has been playing with avant-pop princess, May Rio, around the NYC area - even going as far as SXSW with her. Additionally, he started composing commercially for a Toronto based ad agency called OSO.
His tragic-core band Zen Mother with Monika Khot, released a new record on May, 6th of 2022 via Belgium label Wyerd Son.
In June, he had the pleasure of witnessing a symphonic arrangement he wrote for an upcoming musical adaptation of Anna Karenina, recorded and performed by the Prague Orchestra.
And now as the first half of the year sets, his head is down with pen raised to write a Giallo themed musical tragedy, detailing the story of Selda Wyatt’s Pain Annihilator.
